A LONG STREAK OF NO FIRE CALLS FINALLY OVER

Rescue Engine 1 was dispatched for a reported structure fire. The Northside crew marked up with 7. Upon additional information the Northside crew and other responding units were informed that an outdoor grill had set the propane tank off fueling it, which in turn caught a small portion of house on fire. Upon arrival the home owner had moved the grill away from the house and was trying to extstinguish the fire with a garden hose. The Northside crew stretched a 1 3/4 crossly off the Rescue Engine to the rear of the structure and started to cool the propane cylinder down. Serve 1 driver assist...

PASTA EATING CONTEST FOR CHARITY

EMT "Chip" Estrada proudly represented Friendship Fire Company this Saturday in a pasta eating contest for Charity here in Winchester. Each contestant chowed down on there pasta in hopes of winning $1000 for the Charity of their choice. Chip who registered as the BONE CHRUSHER did an awesome job and came in a close 4th!

On 4/18/08 at around 12:14pm Frederick County dispatched a reported structure fire with possible entrapment at 1560 Valley Mill Road. Wagon 1 was on the initial dispatch assisting company 18. Wagon 1 was third on scene with heavy fire showing from side Alpha and Delta and smoke showing from second story and side Bravo of the first story. The crews from company 18,21,1 were met with heavy fire and smoke conditions at the front door and a propane tank letting off gas which was fueling the fire. LARRY BANKS HONORED BY WINCHESTER CITY COUNCIL

Today, March 11th, 2008, Larry Banks was honored by Winchester City Council for his couragious act on Februrary 6th, 2008. Firefighter Banks recieved recognition by Mayor Minor with a special ceremony during a public hearing. He also recieved a commemorative plaque adressing the presentation. Family and friends alike were there to help him celebrate this moment. All of us here at Friendship Fire Company would like to congratulate Larry. On the 25th of February, 2008 Our very own Steven Anderson departed for Parris Island, SC Marine Corp recruit training. Steven has been an active member of the department and has been an integral part of keeping this site updated. We all wish the best of luck to Steven in his adventures and hope to see him home soon. STATION 1 WELCOMES NEW FRIENDS TO THEIR FAMILY

On February 6th, 2008, Wagon 1 responded for a structure fire with entrapment and rescued a four year old boy out of the fire. The crew from Wagon 1 that day wasn't sure they would ever see the outcome of this horrible situation, but today they had a surprise. Walking up the ramp came four year old Dominic, shy, giggling, unsure of what to make of all the commotion. He was alive and well, and had the biggest smile on his face while he walked into Station 1's bay and saw the big orange firetrucks. Around 0730 this morning, Wagon 1 was dispatched for a structure fire with confirmed entrapment about two blocks away from the station. Wagon 1 marked up with a crew of three and arrived on scene to a two story rowhouse with heavy smoke showing from side Alpha of the structure. Crews quickly deployed an 1 3/4' handline and made an aggresive interior attack. The bulk of the fire was knocked down and a primary search of the first floor was negative. Around 18:30, Station 1 was alerted for a vehicle fire on Jackson Avenue. Rescue Engine 1 was first dispatched for it, but ten seconds later, headquarters dispatched Wagon 1 to assist. Both pieces left the station with a total of nine personnel. While en-route, dispatched advised the vehicle had ignited the vinyl siding of the structure and Wagon 1's OIC called for a full alarm to be placed on the assignment. Just before the sunrise, around 05:45 on a chilly Monday morning, Station 1 was dispatched for a mutual aid assist for a structure fire with Frederick County Company 18 on Carter Place. Wagon 1 responded with three personnel and was first due engine in behind Quint 18. WFRD PERSONNEL AND VOLUNTEERS HOLD TRAINING IN FAIRFAX

Today, career personnel and volunteers from Winchester City Fire and Rescue held training at the Mitre building in Fairfax County. The training class and evolution was about Rapid Intervention Teams and their role in the fire service. Members had class in the morning from 0900-1100 and from 1100-1700 they practiced their skills in the large office building used by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. All in all, it was a great experience for crews to learn new skills or brush up on the ones already known.

 
   
   
 
BUSY DAY SO FAR FOR STATION 1

So far today has turned out busy for the guys at Station 1. Early in the morning crews responded to assist Frederick County with a multiple vehicle fire with exposure. Rescue Engine 1 was second due on the scene and two vehicles were fully involved. Crews managed to put both vehicles out before the arrival of the third due engine and saved the exposure. Crews overhauled and found a small fire in the alpha side of the structure. Then, around 0600, the snow began to fall, and the calls came in. For the third time this week, Station 1 has ran a structure fire within it's first due. Around 16:12 Wagon 1, Engine 5, Truck 2, Wagon 4, Medic 1, and Medic 5 responded for a possible structure fire on East Cork Street, the residence directly across from the structure fire on Sunday. Duty Officer arrived on scene and advised heavy smoke showing from side Adam and David of the structure. Crews from Medic 1 and Engine 5 advanced two 1"3/4 lines, one in the Adam side of the residence, and another through the Charlie side entrance.
